INDIANAPOLIS – A man accused of stabbing multiple people outside a business on Indy's northwest side is moved from the hospital to jail.
Court records filed Wednesday also provided more details into what led to the mass stabbing.
In all, 9 people, including the suspect, were injured. Court records claim video surveillance showed the suspect stab 3 people.
Early Monday morning, just before 4 o'clock, police believe a fight broke out between two men in front of the Miami's Garden restaurant.
That fight quickly moved across the parking lot.
The affidavit in the case claims that's when a third man, 27-year-old Estinfil Filsmagre, stabbed one victim from behind as that victim was walking away.
The suspect then allegedly stabbed a second victim in the side multiple times.
After those unprovoked attacks, police say the suspect ran back to his vehicle in the parking lot where he was quickly surrounded by multiple people.
When an off duty security guard tried to detain Filsmagre, the suspect is accused of stabbing the female guard in the chest leaving her in critical condition with fluid around her heart.
An employee at a nearby hotel who asked to remain anonymous this week said one of her friends witnessed the stabbing and the chaos that followed.
“When he stabbed security it kind-of incited a riot and people started fighting, getting stabbed, things like that. It just became bad and bloody quickly,” said that anonymous employee.
During the melee, the suspect was injured and had to be taken to a hospital in critical condition before being booked into to the Marion County jail Tuesday night.
Filsmagre has been arrested for 3 counts of aggravated battery and two counts of attempted murder.
IMPD insists the investigation remains ongoing to determine if anyone else will be charged in relation to the violence.
As for the business, a sign on the door says the restaurant remains closed by order of the Pike Township Fire Marshall.
The suspect is due in court for initial hearing next week. In the meantime, formal charges have not yet been filed by the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office.
IMPD Chief Chris Bailey released the following statement following the incident:
It is deeply concerning and unacceptable that a conflict escalated to this level of violence. There are so many other ways to resolve disputes—walking away, taking a moment to breathe, or leaving the establishment altogether. Instead, our community woke up to find nine people injured because someone chose to resolve their conflict with a weapon rather than words.
While incidents like this are certainly alarming, it does not erase the progress we have made and will continue to make to improve the safety and security of every neighborhood in our city.
IMPD continues to actively investigate this incident. We urge anyone with information to come forward to call the aggravated assault office at 317-327-3475 or Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317.262.TIPS.
