INDIANAPOLIS — Police have launched a death investigation on the south side of Indianapolis.
According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers responded to the 8700 block of Meadowridge Lane on a report of a "personal injury accident." When police arrived at the scene, they located a person with trauma to their body.
IMPD reported that the person was transported from the scene to a local hospital in critical condition. The person later succumbed to their injuries and was pronounced dead.
In an update released Friday afternoon, police indicated that a 4-year-old was killed in the accident. IMPD reported that the child was run over by a person who was backing a trailer up near a residence.
Public police reporting systems indicate officers were first dispatched to the area around 10:53 a.m.
