BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — According to the Bloomington Police Department, Christopher Carl Collins, a captain at the Indiana University Police Department, was arrested on Thursday for theft against a surgical equipment company.

Court documents note that 38 of Collins' bank transactions were reviewed. Among these 38, an $8,000 check was made out from Innovative Surgical Designs to 3C Properties—a business that Collins owns. The documents said that ISD had no prior history of paying 3C or Collins himself and he used this check for his own personal gain.

ISD reports an overall loss of at least $32,672.69. Of this more than $32,000 loss, court documents allege at least $8,000 was received and spent by Collins.

"IUPD learned of the criminal charges against Captain Collins on May 30," IUPD said. " He has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the criminal process. All questions about the case should be referred to the Bloomington Police Department."

Collins is charged with two Level 6 felonies: fraud and theft, both of which fall into the category of being between $750 and $50,000. If convicted, he could face between six months and 2.5 years behind bars.
