INDIANAPOILS -- An initial hearing has been scheduled for the former Indianapolis Public Schools teacher who reportedly filmed and urged a student fight in 2023.
According to court documents filed in Marion County on Thursday, Julious Johnican is expected to appear in court at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday. This comes after Johnican was charged with one count of neglect of a dependent, a Level 6 felony, and was booked into Marion County Jail on Friday.
Johnican reportedly filmed a 7-year-old IPS student who was being punched, slapped and slammed to the floor during a fight at George Washington Carver Montessori IPS School No. 87 in 2023. Court documents allege that there were multiple incidents where he allowed other students to hit the 7-year-old.
Court documents state that Johnican's legal team filed a motion on Thursday to recall Johnican's warrant, rescind his bond requirement and request the initial hearing.
Marion County Judge Clark Rogers denied those two requests regarding Johnican's warrant and his bond requirement and scheduled the initial hearing date in the same filing.
In a statement earlier this week, IPS said that they were aware of the charges against Johnican and they would "continue to comply with any and all investigations concerning this case."
