MUNCIE, Ind. — A Muncie woman was arrested after operating while intoxicated and leaving the scene of a crash while a victim lay on the side of the road bloody and unconscious.
Crystal Star Glaze, 40, was charged with OWI: Accident with Serious Injury, a Level 5 Felony, and Leaving the Scene of a Serious Bodily Injury Crash While Intoxicated, a Level 3 Felony.

Officers were dispatched at 9:51 p.m. on Tuesday on a report of an accident with an injury near the intersection of Memorial Drive and Hackley Street. Witnesses at the scene reported that the victim was on the side of the road with their leg gashed open.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers observed the victim lying in the roadway with a "significant injury" or laceration to their right leg. The victim also had visible blood on their head.
According to court documents, after the scene was clear, the Muncie Police Dispatch alerted the detective that the suspect may be located at 1501 E 9th St. When the officer arrived at the scene, he was alerted that Glaze was "shaken up," but that she had just started her shift at 10 p.m.
Finding a wrecked vehicle in the establishment's parking lot, the officer proceeded inside to find Glaze and he asked her a few questions about what had happened. Glaze responded, stating that she had "hit something." She later said, "I was just on my way to work," and that she had seen a deer in the middle of the [expletive] road.
Continuing to speak, Glaze reportedly then told the officer, "Why do people think they have to walk in the middle of the [expletive] road." After completing a Field Sobriety Test, Glaze stated she was the driver, that she struck the victim with her car, and that she did not stop at the scene. She also advised officers that she had alcoholism.
After conducting a follow-up with the hospital on Thursday at 5:20 a.m., it was learned that the victim suffered three brain bleeds and a large open fracture to her lower right extremity.
Glaze bond was set at $25,000.
