INDIANAPOLIS -- Two people have been arrested in relation to the deadly road rage shooting that occurred on I-65 on Wednesday.
According to the Indiana State Police, 24-year-old Andre Briski, an Indianapolis resident, was arrested on preliminary charges of murder and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. Shawna Rowland, a Greenwood resident, was also arrested on preliminary charges of assisting a criminal and obstruction of justice.
ISP troopers responded to a crash on I-65 north of Greenwood Wednesday afternoon. Witnesses said that a road rage incident led to gunfire, leading a car to run off the road and crash into a pond.
Officials said that the driver of the car that crashed into the pond, later identified as 35-year-old Ryan Hawkins, was pronounced dead at the scene, Hawkins, who was reportedly shot, was ejected from the vehicle before it crashed into the water.
In the investigation, detectives with the Indiana State Police reportedly received "key information" about the incident by witnesses and motorists who were in the area.
Officials said in a news release that through the information that detectives received, ISP was able to locate the suspect vehicle within hours. This discovery led investigators to Briski and Rowland.
Officials said that formal charges will be determined at a later time by the Marion County Prosecutor's Office.
