CASS COUNTY, Ind. — Indiana State Police are now investigating after a Cass County deputy's police chase ended in a deadly crash on State Road 29 near Logansport.

According to ISP, a deputy with the Cass County Sheriff's Office was doing routine patrols around 6:30 a.m. Monday when a 2019 Jeep Compass reportedly sped by. The deputy then began a police pursuit of the Jeep just south of Logansport, heading south on SR-29.

An ISP investigation into the crash showed that the chase continued south into Carroll County and that, just before reaching County Road 600 North, the Jeep veered off the east side of the road for an unknown reason. The car then struck a tree and rolled over before stopping.

The driver of the Jeep was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by the Carroll County Coroner, ISP said. The name of the driver is being withheld pending next-of-kin notification.

ISP said that further investigation into the Jeep showed that it had been previously reported stolen out of Monticello. The local Monticello police department is handling the theft investigation.

The investigation into the stolen Jeep, police chase and fatal crash are actively being investigated, ISP said. No other information was immediately provided.
