INDIANAPOLIS — On Jan. 23, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department's northwest district officers were dispatched to an area hospital on a report of an adult male who sustained battery-related injuries. When police arrived at the scene, they located a victim with injuries consistent with trauma.
On March 31, the man was pronounced dead by medical personnel. On Friday, the Marion County Coroner's Office ruled the case a homicide.
According to a press release, the incident took place in January in the 4900 block of Media Drive on the northwest side of Indianapolis.
At the time, IMPD identified an alleged suspect — 53-year-old William Spann Jr. With assistance from the IMPD SWAT team, Spann Jr. was taken into custody without further incident, authorities said.
IMPD said Spann Jr.'s case has now been turned over to homicide detectives, who are consulting with the Marion County Prosecutor's Office regarding final charging decisions.
Spann Jr. remained in custody as of the this article's publication.
