INDIANAPOLIS — A Muncie drug dealer who flooded the streets with thousands of potentially deadly fentanyl pills will serve 10 years in federal prison.

Dayten Abram, 22, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute, carrying a firearm during a drug trafficking crime and distribution of fentanyl.

The United States Attorney's Office Southern District of Indiana said that on March 16, 2023, Abram was pulled over by Muncie police who were investigating the suspected drug dealer.

Police ended up searching Abram's vehicle and finding more than 1,500 fentanyl pills in addition to a loaded handgun and nearly $9,000 in cash.

Fentanyl is a dangerous drug that can be fatal in doses as small as two milligrams, according to the Drug Enforcement Administration. The DEA said seven out of 10 fentanyl tablets seized in the U.S. and analyzed by the DEA were found to contain potentially lethal doses.

After being arrested during the traffic stop, Abram ended up bonding out of jail. On April 27, 2023, police recorded Abram continuing to deal drugs despite being out on bond for drug charges.

Police recorded Abram selling 503 fentanyl pills, leading to another arrest of the dealer.

“Undeterred after being caught red-handed with over 1,500 deadly fentanyl pills and a loaded handgun, this criminal continued to push his poison into Muncie’s neighborhoods while out on bond,” said Zachary A. Myers, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana.

“Fentanyl traffickers care more about making money than they care about the lives destroyed or ended by their deadly product," Myers added.

Following his 10-year federal prison sentence, Abram will spend four years on supervised release.
