FRANKFORT, Ind. — The Frankfort Parks Department has reported that several birds have been stolen from one of its aviaries.

According to one of the department's Facebook posts, Frankfort Parks zookeepers came in for work Sunday morning and noticed a number of birds were missing from the aviary at TPA Park.

The parks department notified the Frankfort Police Department about the missing birds. The police department is still investigating the birds' disappearance.

After its preliminary investigation, the Frankfort Police Department determined there were signs of forced entry at the aviary. Police are reviewing footage captured by surveillance cameras located near the aviary.

Officials indicated all of the allegedly stolen birds are exotic species. The birds are estimated to be worth around $30,000, per the parks department.

The TPA Park Aviary and Petting Zoo was closed on Sunday. The parks department encouraged those curious about the birds' disappearance to monitor Facebook for updates.
