MUNCIE, Ind. — Indiana State Police have reported that a Muncie woman was arrested for stealing a vehicle — as well as having an active felony warrant — on Sunday.

According to a press release, at around 12:43 a.m., a state trooper was on patrol when he saw a black Toyota Camry traveling northbound on Madison Avenue near 12th Street. ISP indicated that the vehicle had been reported as stolen to the Muncie Police Department on Tuesday.

Soon after the trooper located the vehicle, ISP and MPD conducted a high-risk traffic stop with its driver.

The vehicle was subsequently recovered and its driver was identified as 28-year-old Erika L. Shulka of Muncie. She was arrested and taken to the Delaware County Jail without further incident, per ISP.

Shulka was preliminarily charged with auto theft — a Level 6 Felony — after the incident. The charges tied to her outstanding warrant were:

  • Burglary, a Level 4 Felony
  • Invasion of privacy, a Class A Misdemeanor
  • Criminal mischief, a Class B Misdemeanor

Buglary is the most serious of the charges Shulka faces. The maximum penalty for a Level 4 Felony like burglary in Indiana is 12-year prison sentence and a fine of up to $10,000.
