INDIANAPOLIS — June is Pride Month, and the city of Indianapolis is going all out to celebrate.

All of the colors of the rainbow were seen from miles away as the 2024 Indy Parade got underway on Saturday along Mass Avenue. People from all over the state came out to celebrate a tradition that’s been going on for decades. It’s all to support LGBTQ+ rights and inclusivity.

”It’s important for visibility purposes,” said Jenny Boyts, the Indy Pride Board President. “LGBTQ+ Hoosiers have been here for a very, very long time. We’ve always been here, so continuing to show younger generations that we are here and it’s okay. There is a world where you can live as your full and true self, [knowing that] is really important.”

Organizers say the annual Pride Parade is not just a procession through the heart of downtown, but a statement of love, resilience and showing the power of togetherness.

“It’s been really hard to be a Queer Hoosier in the last few years here, and I am just excited in the ways in which Indy Pride continues to create space for Queer joy,” Boyts said. “I hope people feel excited about the future and know they are safe and welcome. Indy Pride is here to continue to create those spaces.”

Following the parade, people had a chance to check out the annual Indy Pride Festival at Military Park. This year, there were dozens of different vendors, live performances and much more.
