CHILLICOTHE, Ohio (WCMH) -- A professional bowler from Chillicothe will spend years in prison after being convicted on more than a dozen sex offense charges.
Brandon Novak, 35, pleaded guilty to all 15 felony counts he was originally indicted on, including five for pandering sexually oriented matter involving a minor, and 10 for illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material or performance. The case wrapped up within four months, with authorities arresting him in February during the 2024 U.S. Open Bowling Tournament in Indianapolis.
A Ross County Common Pleas Court judge sentenced Novak to 13 years and three months in prison total. However, the judge set parts of the sentence to run in different ways. Four years and 11 months of Novak's sentence -- stemming from the five pandering charges -- will run consecutively.
The other eight years and four months -- tied to the nudity-oriented material charges -- will run concurrently, meaning it will be carved away at the same time as the nearly five years from the other set of charges. Because of this, Novak will spend a maximum of eight years and four months in prison.
The bowler will also have to register as a Tier II sex offender, meaning he will hold the label for 25 years and has no legal way to remove it early.
Documents filed in Ross County Common Pleas Court did not elaborate on how investigators tied Novak to the charges, or the evidence they had against him, but did say he solicited, received, bought or possessed child sexual abuse material.
