INDIANAPOLIS — Police are investigating after one person was fatally shot on the city’s near northwest side.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said officers were dispatched to the 3000 block of Skylar Lane around 7:17 a.m. on a report of a person shot. IMPD later discovered the address of the incident to be within the 3000 block of Armory Lane.
When they arrived, police found a female victim with gunshot wounds in the residence. The victim was reported to be dead on the scene.
In an update provided Saturday evening, IMPD reported that its detectives arrested Robert Cooley for his alleged role in the incident. Police arrested Cooley for murder after they consulted with the Marion County Prosecutor's Office.
Police labeled the case as a "domestic-related homicide." The Marion County Coroner's Office will identify the decedent once her family has been properly notified of her death.
Police indicated that Cooley was detained at the scene of the shooting without incident. He was then transported to the IMPD Homicide Office for questioning.
Investigators applied for a warrant to search the residence the shooting allegedly happened in. They found a firearm in the home and seized it as evidence.
