INDIANAPOLIS — A woman sustained graze wounds during a shooting in downtown Indianapolis on Saturday.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers responded to the 200 block of East Washington Street near the Julia Carson Transit Center on a report of shots fired. Dispatchers later received a second call indicating somebody had been shot in the area.

When police arrived at the scene, they located an adult female who was injured during the incident.

IMPD characterized the victim's injuries as "minor graze/superficial" wounds. The person was checked out at the scene by medics and then released.

Police reported that they detained two persons of interest while they were investigating the incident. IMPD aggravated assault detectives also responded to the scene to investigate.

Public police reporting systems indicate IMPD was first called to the area around 6:19 p.m.

In an update later in the evening, police say they arrested 34-year-old Matthew Russ for battery with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon.

The Marion County Prosecutor's Office will making final charging decisions.
