INDIANAPOLIS -- A death investigation is underway after divers with the Indianapolis Fire Department recovered a man from a body of water on Indy's north side Wednesday afternoon.
IFD said firefighters were dispatched around 3:26 p.m. to the 5700 block of Northdale Lake Court, the listed address for Northdale Lake Apartments, after receiving reports that a person was down in the water. Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were also called a short time later to assist IFD and IEMS with the run.
IFD said a caller notified dispatch that they had observed an empty boat that was "partially submerged with 3 fishing rods inside" that was located around 40 feet from the shore.

Shortly after arriving at the scene, IFD's tactical dive team recovered the victim, identified as a 74-year-old man, who was found around four feet under the boat without a life vest.
IMPD said the man was recovered from the water and brought to Methodist Hospital where he died.
A total of 10 IFD units responded to the scene.
IMPD confirmed detectives have launched a death investigation to learn more about the circumstances of the incident.
