INDIANAPOLIS -- A dead man was found in a vehicle after it was towed from an apartment complex in Greenwood to Indianapolis in mid-April after a "strong odor" was emitting from the vehicle.

According to documents from the Greenwood Police Department, a towing company contracted with the Summit Pointe Apartments, located in the 2400 block of Main St., towed a vehicle from the complex after it was reported to have an expired registration as well as "an awful odor emitting from within."

Employees with the complex tried to look inside the vehicle's windows, but told police the window tint was "too dark and they could not see inside of the vehicle." The company was then called to tow the vehicle.

The documents said that after the car was towed to Indianapolis, officials with the company looked through the windshield and saw a body in the car. The towing company then called the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

When police searched the vehicle, they found a man lying in a sleeping position across the back seat. The documents said that a "large amount of alcohol, food and clothing was also observed within the vehicle."

After an autopsy, the man was found to have died of natural causes related to hypertension.
