DUBOIS COUNTY, Ind. — Police have arrested a woman in Dubois County who they say tried to drive through a school pickup line with drugs, empty beer cans and dirty diapers in her car.
According to a press release from Indiana State Police, 41-year-old Sylvia Hadi was in the pickup line at Jasper Elementary School on Monday when school staff noticed the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle she was in.
School staff notified a trooper who was also in the line and trying to pick up his children. The trooper made contact with Hadi and another adult occupant in the vehicle.
Both Hadi and the adult passenger were detained. During a subsequent search of the car, police found the vehicle to be in "deplorable condition." Marijuana, drug paraphernalia, beer cans and some diapers with feces lying around them were reportedly located in the vehicle.
ISP reported that a substance police suspected to be methamphetamine was also found in the car.
Hadi was transported to the Dubois County Jail after she was arrested. The Indiana Department of Child Services made arrangements for the five children that were in the car.
Hadi has been preliminarily charged with neglect of a dependent and possession of methamphetamine, which are both Level 6 Felonies. In Indiana, the maximum penalty for a Level 6 Felony is a 2.5-year prison sentence and a fine of up to $10,000.
