CUMBERLAND, Ind. — Police are actively looking for a man they say stabbed a dog in the back and threatened to kill the owner while running shirtless along a trail in Hancock County.

Edwin Orozco Temblador, a 28-year-old man with a Mexican passport and current Greenfield address, was charged earlier this month in Hancock County Court with several felonies. A warrant for his arrest has been granted following the stabbing incident.

Initial call

Court documents show that police were called around 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 6, to the Pennsy Trail in Cumberland after several callers reported a man wearing only shorts trying to stab a person.

Upon arrival to the area, police found a shirtless man standing in the middle of the trail. Officers gave the man commands at gunpoint before he fell to his knees and was handcuffed.

The man appeared to be having a mental crisis or substance-induced psychosis, police said. Despite this, he reportedly turned his phone and Mexican passport over to officers voluntarily and said he no longer had the knife. The man was identified as Temblador.

Police said Temblador began saying "random things," such as being the son of the Mexican President and that "you have ten seconds." He also said he wanted to go back to Marion County "where the real killers are." After this, he reportedly fell to the ground in front of a police car.

Alleged stabbing

Officers spoke with the victim of the alleged attack, who said that he had begun his morning walk with his 7-year-old black lab Mitzi when he encountered Temblador.

"[The victim] said that as he walked past, Temblador said 'I'm going to stab you and your dog' and 'I'm going to cut off your d**k and f**k you'," court docs read. "Temblador had a large knife out and appeared to be sharpening it and also took his t-shirt."

The victim said he was taken aback by these statements and began to run away from Temblador. However, the victim said Temblador caught up to him and immediately stabbed Mitzki in her back near her neck. The owner was not injured.

After this, the victim said Mitzi was bleeding profusely as he ran to a neighbor's house to call 911. The dog was later taken to an animal hospital in Indianapolis where she had to have surgery, police said. The dog's condition is not known as of this article's publication.

Aftermath and arrest warrant

EMS crews arrived on the scene to evaluate Tremblador and the suspect was later to Community East Hospital for psychological treatment. Later in the day, police said Tremblador was transferred to the Community North Psychiatric Unit. It is unknown if he was later released.

Back on scene, officers reportedly found a large knife with a red handle along the trail near where they found Tremblador. They also recovered various clothing items as well.

Given the evidence gathered by officers, the Hancock County Sheriff's Department preliminarily charged Tremblador with:

  • Intimidation with a Deadly Weapon - Level 5 Felony
  • Criminal Recklessness with a Deadly Weapon - Level 6 Felony
  • Attempted Killing of a Domestic Animal - Level 6 Felony
  • Torturing or Mutilating a Vertebrate Animal - Level 6 Felony

Court documents show that an arrest warrant for Tremblador was granted on April 11. As of this article's publication, Tremblador has not been arrested or booked into jail and no mugshot is available.
