PENDLETON, Ind. — Police are investigating a fatal crash that involved two semis on Interstate 69 near Pendleton.
According to the Madison County Sheriff's Department, deputies were called to the interstate around 4:15 a.m. Sunday. Law enforcement ultimately determined a 2020 Volvo travelling southbound on I-69 near mile marker 214.9 rear-ended another semi.
The crash caused the Volvo to roll over and disconnect from its trailer. Piyush Bali, a 26-year-old from Canada, was driving the Volvo at the time of the crash.
Bali was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the Volvo also sustained non-life-threatening injures and was transported to IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
MCSD reported that the other semi driver involved in the crash was not injured. I-69 was closed for seven hours while crews investigated and cleaned up the crash.
