INDIANAPOLIS -- An early Wednesday morning crash involved a stolen car that tried to get away from police.

According to Indiana State Police, the vehicle sped off after state troopers spotted the stolen vehicle and tried to pull it over.

That led to a pursuit, with the vehicle eventually crash around 3 a.m. near East 21st Street and Wellesley Boulevard.

Two suspects got out and tried to get away but police were able to take them into custody. State police recovered a rifle from the crashed vehicle, along with a pistol outfitted with a machine gun conversion device (sometimes called a Glock switch). They also found drugs inside.

Video from the scene showed a pair of crashed vehicles and a damaged utility pole. An SUV had the front end smashed in and the airbags had deployed. A second vehicle also sustained substantial damage.

Both the suspects and the driver of the other vehicle were taken to area hospitals, police said. The incident remains under investigation.
