COLUMBUS, Ind. — A Columbus man is under arrest after police allegedly searched his phone and found images of child pornography.
Caleb Kirts, 30, was arrested on Monday at Kirts Truck Repair after police conducted a search at his home and seized multiple electronic devices.
According to the Columbus Police Department, the investigation into Kirts began after police stopped Kirts in a vehicle that was reported stolen out of Indianapolis on Feb. 10.
Kirts reportedly told police that there was proof on his phone that detailed where the vehicle came from. Officers reported looking at the phone and discovering something they hadn't been looking for — images of child porn.
The Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force ended up applying for a search warrant and searching Kirts's residence on North 500 West on Monday. Multiple electronic devices were seized from the home.
The same day, Columbus police located Kirts at Kirts Truck Repair on State Road 46 and took him into custody.
Kirts is currently being held on a preliminary count of child exploitation, a Level 5 felony. Columbus police said the investigation into Kirts remains ongoing, however, and said more charges could be filed against Kirts in the future.
