MUNCIE, Ind. — A man police identified as homeless was arrested last week after being accused of groping a child.
Jeffrey Alan Wolford, 62, was arrested on Wednesday morning by the Muncie Police Department. He faces one preliminary count of sexual battery, a Level 6 felony.
According to court documents, the victim told authorities at the Susan Gresham Center that she had been touched by Wolford multiple times over the past several years. The girl was reportedly between the ages of 14 and 16 when Wolford was accused of touching her chest and privates over her clothing.
The victim told police that Wolford was intoxicated during the encounters and would tell the girl he loved her and talk about how beautiful she was. Wolford also allegedly told the girl that he wanted to have sex with younger girls and wished to one day live with the victim.
Officers caught up with Wolford a few days later at a mission in Muncie. Police claim Wolford denied the allegations at first before relenting and saying it "probably did happen when he was drinking."
Wolford told police he doesn't remember what he says or does when he's drinking. He said he sometimes drinks for weeks at a time.
At this time, charges have not officially been filed against Wolford. The Delaware County Prosecutor's Office will make the final charging decision.
A booking photo of Wolford was not available.
