INDIANAPOLIS – Indianapolis Metropolitan police arrested a suspect accused of robbing three people at gunpoint over the weekend.

On Saturday, Nov. 16, officers with IMPD’s North District responded to the 3000 block of N. Central Avenue. Three people told officers they’d been victims of an armed robbery.

Officers learned the suspect ran into a nearby home and set up a perimeter until he emerged. Upon seeing police, the man tossed away an item as he tried to run away.

Officers, with the assistance of an IMPD K-9, took the suspect into custody. He was identified as 25-year-old Joe Eddie Ross III.

Officers found a black handgun with an extended magazine they believe Ross threw aside when he attempted to leave the scene. He’s prohibited from having a gun under the terms of his probation from a previous case, police said.

Robbery detectives spoke to the victims and collected evidence from the scene. Police later arrested Ross on preliminary charges of robbery, resisting arrest and unlawful possession of a firearm.

The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will make the final charging decision.
