PERU, Ind. — Indiana State Police are investigating after a woman was struck and killed this week by a driver while walking in Miami County.
ISP troopers were called around 5 p.m. Monday to Wabash Road in Peru for a pedestrian who'd been struck by a vehicle. They arrived to find 80-year-old Beverly Bowen suffering from injuries sustained in the crash.
Despite life-saving efforts by troopers and EMS, Bowen was pronounced dead on the scene. Family notifications have since been made.
ISP said that the driver who struck Bowen stayed on scene. A preliminary investigation shows that the driver was in a 2007 Ford Focus traveling eastbound on Wabash Road when the crash occurred. He reportedly struck Bowen as she was walking east of Paw Paw Pike in Peru.
At this time, ISP said that drugs and alcohol are not believed to be a factor in the crash and no one has been charged. However, toxicology results for the driver are still pending.
No other information was immediately provided by ISP.
