CLERMONT, Ind. — At least two Marion County polling locations have run out of election ballots Tuesday as local officials rework the site restocking system.

The polling location at the Clermont Lions Club in Clermont briefly ran out of ballots around noon Tuesday, with over a dozen people left in line. Marion County Clerk Dan Goldblatt confirmed that the location was out of ballots "for under five minutes."

"The mechanic has arrived there I can confirm and delivered more ballots and to my knowledge that was the only site that ran out, but they were out for under five minutes," Goldblatt said around 12:30 p.m.

An anonymous poll worker at the location told FOX59/CBS4 that the site had requested more ballots an hour before running out. Karen Flaherty, an inspector who has worked the past three years at the Clermont polling location, said she has never seen an Election Day today.

"We ran out of ballots. Normally it’s never been this busy. We were given 1,000 ballots and we ran out of them," she said. "I started getting nervous when we were at about 750 people, so I called and asked for backup ballots and unfortunately they didn't get here in time."

Goldblatt said that officials noted that ballots were not being restocked as efficiently as possible and that procedures have now been changed.

"We did notice that ballots were not being replaced as fast as we had liked and have changed our workflow to stay on top of that better," he said.

Around an hour later, the polling location at Northminster Presbyterian Church on Kessler Blvd. ran out of ballots as a line of voters waited outside. A poll worker at the location told FOX59/CBS4 viewers that they had requested additional ballots hours before they ran out.

Goldblatt confirmed Tuesday afternoon that the Northminster location did run out of ballots around 1 p.m. for about 15 minutes. The ballots have reportedly since been replenished and the location is now operating as normal.

Officials said around 1:30 p.m. that one unspecified south side Indianapolis location is running low on ballots but that more are on the way.

As of 12 p.m. Tuesday, officials said that 111,000 Marion County residents have voted on Election Day.
