INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis' newest movie theater now has an opening date.
The Indianapolis location of Alamo Drafthouse, an Austin-based cinema chain, will open on Nov. 18 at its location at 3898 Lafayette Road. This comes after the chain first announced in October 2023 that it would be opening its first location in Indiana.
According to a news release, the theater will feature 13 screens with more than 300 seats. The theater will also offer a scratch-made food menu, local beers on tap as well as craft cocktails. The theater will be open daily from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
“Bringing Alamo Drafthouse Cinema to our project is a major milestone in our efforts to redevelop the northwest side of Indianapolis,” Fabio De La Cruz, the chief executive officer of Sojos Capital, said in the release. “Alamo Drafthouse brings a unique and colorful experience that really connects with the local community."
According to the news release, the cinema will have a racing theme, including murals that pay tribute to racing in the movies, an authentic winning IndyCar, and racing-themed movie posters lining the theater's walls.
“Being part of the transformation happening in this neighborhood is what makes opening Alamo Drafthouse in Indianapolis so exciting,” Michael Kustermann, the CEO of Alamo Drafthouse, said in the release. “I’ve seen firsthand how much this city has to offer, and we’re looking forward to becoming part of the community, sharing our passion for film and helping make this area a destination for great movies and amazing experiences.”
The theater's site once served as the home of the Lafayette Road Drive-In, as well as the Georgetown 14 cinemas, the release said.
