TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. — Indiana State Police arrested a woman on OWI charges after a chase in Tippecanoe County Friday night.
According to a press release, police received a report about a reckless driver on State Road 26 around 11:30 p.m. Preliminary information indicated the driver was traveling eastbound toward Lafayette.
Per ISP, troopers responded to the area the driver was reported to be in and located a 2015 GMC Yukon. The car matched the description of the reckless vehicle police had received earlier.
A trooper ultimately attempted to stop the driver of the Yukon for a traffic violation on SR 26 near Frontage Road. The driver, later identified as 38-year-old Dawn Goodroad of South Dakota, disregarded police's attempts to stop her and fled northbound on Interstate 65 from SR 26, per ISP.
A trooper followed Goodroad until she reached mile marker 178 on I-65. ISP reported that, at that point, deputies from the Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Office joined the chase.
Goodroad stopped at mile marker 179 and was apprehended. During their investigation, state police were led to believe Goodroad was driving under the influence.
Law enforcement later transported Goodroad to the Tippecanoe County Jail. She has been preliminarily charged with resisting law enforcement with a vehicle and operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
Resisting law enforcement with a vehicle is a Level 6 Felony in Indiana. The maximum penalty for a Level 6 Felony in the Hoosier State is a 2.5-year prison sentence and a fine of up to $10,000.
