GREENWOOD, Ind. -- An officer with the Lawrence Police Department was arrested for domestic battery in Greenwood on Thursday morning.
According to a news release from the Johnson County Sheriff's Office, 43-year-old Joshua Wise was arrested and transported to the Johnson County Jail on Thursday after being preliminarily charged with domestic battery.
Deputies from the Johnson County Sheriff's Office responded to a domestic dispute call in the 3800 block of Clubhouse Court in Greenwood around 11:57 a.m. on Thursday.
As deputies with the Johnson County Sheriff's Office investigated the incident, officials said they determined that there was probable cause a battery had occurred. Wise was then arrested and taken to the Johnson County Jail.
Officials said the Johnson County Prosecutor's Office is expected to determine whether formal charges will be filed at a later time.
In a statement from the Lawrence Police Department, officials said they take any allegations of misconduct seriously and "holds its officers to the highest standards of professionalism and ethical behavior."
"Upon learning of the incident, immediate action was taken by the department. Officer Wise has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of this investigation," the statement read. "The department is committed to ensuring that the investigation is thorough and transparent. The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office is the investigating agency for this incident."
