INDIANAPOLIS — Former IndyCar driver Paul Tracy was hurt in crash earlier this week.
In an Instagram post, Tracy indicated he was struck by a car and suffered a dislocated shoulder. In a separate post, Tracy reported that he was transferred to a trauma center because three vertebrae in his lower back were broken.
Per the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Tracy competed in seven Indianapolis 500s during his career. He placed in the top five once and in the top 10 twice.
Tracy's best finish came in the 2002 Indy 500, when he placed second.
Tracy used to be a member of NBC Sports' IndyCar broadcast crew, but according to USA Today, the television broadcasting giant chose not to renew his contract after the 2021 season.
