INDIANAPOLIS -- Indiana State Police are investigating after a man was shot and injured on Interstate 465 on Indy's northwest side Tuesday afternoon.
ISP said detectives were called around 1:20 p.m. to the eastbound lanes of I-465 near the Michigan Road exit to investigate after receiving reports of a possible shooting.
Detectives later learned that the victim, confirmed to be an adult male, had self-transported to the Meridian Street exit where he waited for emergency medical personnel to arrive.
The victim was subsequently transported to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. He was last reported to be in stable condition, according to ISP.
ISP said preliminary information indicates the victim was operating a black Chevrolet Equinox on I-465 near Michigan Road when the driver of a different vehicle approached and opened fire.
The suspect vehicle fled the area after the shooting, ISP said.
ISP urged anyone with information related to Tuesday's shooting to contact 317-899-8577. The shooting remains under investigation.
