NEW YORK — An Indiana college student has been charged with sexual abuse and burglary as a sexually motivated crime in New York.
Per an assistant district attorney in New York City, both of the charges 21-year-old Chamberlain Nwiue face are felonies.
Court records indicate that, on June 29, Nwiue followed a woman who was walking her dog back to her apartment building. Nwiue then entered the victim's apartment building, got into the elevator with her, and then rode up to her floor. As the victim went to open her apartment door, Nwiue allegedly pushed her inside and onto the ground.
Information released by an assistant district attorney shows that, upon entering the victim's apartment, Nwiue said, "F***ing calm down. I'm going to have sex with you." Nwiue then allegedly put his hand over the victim's mouth.
A building doorman, who thought Nwiue's presence was suspicious, later went up to the victim's apartment to check on her. Court records report the doorman tried to open the victim's apartment door and called police.
When police arrived, they arrested Nwiue and removed him from the area. Law enforcement indicated that, while Nwiue was in custody, he was making comments about the women he saw, including, "I would f*** her."
Officials also reported that Nwiue allegedly touched a stranger's butt in the street and tried to kiss them during a different incident on June 27. During that disturbance, Nwiue was arrested and charged with forcible touching of intimate parts.
Officials reported that Nwiue has "no strong connections to (New York City)." The district attorney's office also indicated Nwiue is a college student from Indiana who was in town for the summer for an internship.
Nwiue's booking information indicates he is from Indianapolis. He is due in court in New York again later this year.
