Pedestrian struck, killed on Indy's west side

INDIANAPOLIS -- An investigation is underway after a person was struck and killed by a vehicle on Indy's west side Wednesday night.

Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were called around 9:49 p.m. to the 8000 block of W. Washington Street to investigate a personal injury crash. IMPD confirmed that officers found at least one individual who was pronounced dead on the scene.

On Thursday, the Marion County Coroner's Office identified the person who died as 54-year-old Trampest Lamar Ritchie.

IMPD later confirmed that the incident involved a pedestrian who was struck by a passing vehicle. The driver remained on the scene and is cooperating with investigators, according to IMPD.

The IMPD fatal crash investigation will continue investigating the circumstances of the incident.
