CAMBY, Ind. — No charges will be filed after a man was shot and killed outside a Walmart in Camby in early June.
The Hendricks County Sheriff's Department said that after a thorough investigation, evidence of self-defense was found leading to the prosecutor to decline pressing criminal charges against the shooter.
Previous stories detail how police were called out to the Walmart located on Upland Way in Camby shortly before 2 p.m. on June 2.
Deputies arrived on scene and found a man in the parking lot suffering from a gunshot wound to his torso. The wounded man ended up dying from his wound after being transported to the hospital. He was later identified as Matthew Steele, 34, of Indianapolis.
Deputies would end up detaining and questioning a 19-year-old male who was believed to have been involved in the shooting. Police believe the shooting was the result of a verbal and physical altercation between the two men which eventually boiled over when a firearm was produced.
The sheriff's department provided no further information about the altercation between the two men or the deadly shooting other than stating that "there was evidence of self-defense found."
