BROWNSBURG, Ind. — A Brownsburg drug dealer will spend more than a decade in federal prison after being found guilty of continuing to sell meth while out on probation for similar crimes.

Scott Planalp, 37, was sentenced Thursday to 12 years in federal prison and five years of supervised release after pleading guilty to selling methamphetamine while out on probation for meth possession. Online court records show Planalp has been charged with drug offenses at least seven times since 2018.

Court documents show that in June 2022 DEA agents began investigating Planalp's meth trafficking activities. Three different times during that month, DEA agents say they observed Planalp deal meth to various people for cash.

"For example, on June 15, 2022, Planalp sold 72.9 grams of pure methamphetamine to a person for $1,050," documents show. "Planalp was recorded telling the buyer that he was currently in a drug court program as a result of a prior drug trafficking arrest and that he had to take three drug tests a week."

Zachary Myers, the US Attorney for Indiana's Southern District, said that in total Planalp sold 185.1 grams of "pure methamphetamine" during the DEA's investigation.

"Meth traffickers must be held accountable for the harm that their poison does to people and families impacted by substance use disorders," Myers said in a release Thursday. "This defendant was undeterred by prior arrests and shamelessly continued the criminal conduct that landed him in state court in the first place."

Online court records show that Planalp has an extensive criminal history including charges for:

  • Dealing and Possession of Meth
  • Possession of a Legend Drug
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Obstruction of Justice
  • Auto Theft
  • Railroad Mischief
  • Various traffic violations (speeding, driving without a license, etc.)

Planalp's 12-year sentence was imposed by U.S. District Judge James P. Hanlon.
