INDIANAPOLIS -- An Indy man has been sentenced to over 60 years in prison after being found guilty of shooting and killing another man three years ago in broad daylight in Lawrence.
The Marion County Prosecutor's Office announced Monday afternoon that Sean Dixon received a 62-year prison sentence after being convicted of murder, a level 1 felony, on May 15 during a two-day jury trial held in Marion Superior Court 29.
According to previous reports, officers with the Lawrence Police Department were dispatched around 1:15 p.m. on July 5, 2021, to the 11300 block of Pendleton Pike in response to reports that a person had been shot.
Officers arrived and found a man, later identified as 32-year-old Cameron Anderson of Indianapolis, suffering from a gunshot wound to his neck near his vehicle, which LPD confirmed was also sprayed with multiple bullets.
Anderson was transported to IU Health Methodist Hospital in critical condition where he later died.
Detectives working the case soon identified Dixon as the primary suspect after witnesses said they observed a man matching Dixon's physical description fire a handgun out of an SUV in Anderson's direction.
Additional tips that were provided to detectives helped them narrow their search to Dixon while comparing photo arrays, MCPO said. Investigators also utilized cellphone records which placed Dixon in the area of the fatal shooting at the time of the murder.
MCPO added that Dixon also brought the vehicle he fired from to a repair shop days after the altercation to mend a broken windshield.
“Three years ago, the defendant senselessly took Cameron Anderson’s life and put countless others in danger when he opened fire in the middle of the day on one of the city’s major throughfares,” Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears said. “I commend the work of the investigators and the cooperating witnesses who took a stand against this act of violence and made it possible to obtain justice on Mr. Anderson’s behalf.”
