INDIANAPOLIS — The 2024 Indiana State Fair will run from Aug. 2 to Aug. 18 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds & Event Center. In anticipation of the event, Indiana State Police have offered some tips to keeping Hoosiers safe and prepared.

  1. Plan Ahead: The Indiana State Fair website offers info on each day's fun, including events and hours of operation.
  2. Parking: There are multiple gates to access the fairgrounds, located on each side of the property. To figure out which area is best for you, take a look at the Indiana State Fair's parking website. ISP also mentioned that it may be a good idea to take a picture of your car or track its parking spot via an app like Find My Car, or Apple Maps' "Parked Car" location service.
  3. Vehicle safety: ISP stressed the importance of locking your doors and leaving valuables at home. If valuables must be left in the car, make sure they are out of sight or, better yet, locked in the trunk.
  4. Weather: With the unpredictability of Indiana weather, state police are suggesting signing up for emergency notifications from the Indiana State Fair Operations Center.
  5. Heat: In addition to keeping an eye on the weather, ISP said that high heat should be expected during the fair. They urged visitors to stay hydrated, take breaks and visit commercial buildings with AC.
  6. Lost Children: Every year, ISP Troopers help locate lost children. Should a child go missing, they said that the best way to locate them is providing a detailed description of their clothing. Families are also encouraged to take a photo of their children upon arriving to the fairgrounds, which they can then share with safety personnel if they get separated. Child ID bracelets can also be picked up from ISP booths, if your child does not know your phone number. These options may also be used for adults and elderly visitors that become separated from their caregivers.
  7. 'See something, say something': Suspicious and criminal behavior should be reported to police.
