MUNCIE, Ind. — Court documents reveal how a bloody Muncie woman flagged down a police officer after fleeing from a knife-wielding attacker who had been waiting for her to come home inside her apartment.
Dallas White, 46, of Muncie was arrested on Thursday afternoon on preliminary charges of burglary, a Level 5 felony, and battery committed with a deadly weapon, a Level 5 felony. Jail records also list White as being held on a parole violation.
According to court records, White was convicted of murder in 1997. He was sentenced to 55 years in prison but wound up not serving his full sentence.
According to court documents, a police officer was pulling up to Haven Apartments on N. Marleon Drive late Tuesday night to investigate a burglary report. As the officer approached, a woman and her boyfriend ran out and flagged the officer down.
Police said the woman was crying and frantic with her left arm dripping blood from lacerations.
Police learned that the woman and her boyfriend were returning to her apartment when she opened the door and found another man waiting inside. The woman told police the intruder was Dallas White, who she knew as a friend, and he was waiting with a knife in hand.
According to the pair, White pulled the woman into the apartment before slamming the door shut on her boyfriend and locking him out. The woman said White then attempted to drag her to the laundry room but she ended up fighting free. White reportedly used the knife to cut her arm and hand during the struggle for her freedom.
The woman escaped her apartment and hid outside with her boyfriend until police arrived.
Police spoke with the boyfriend who told the same story, telling police he attempted to break in through the sliding glass door to try and rescue the victim before she escaped.
Despite the woman knowing White, she told police he wasn't permitted to be in her apartment. Police said it was later determined that one of the woman's friends let White into the apartment earlier in the day and he waited inside until the victim returned.
White fled the scene before police arrived on scene. He was tracked down and arrested on Thursday.
Court records show that White was found guilty of murder in Delaware County in 1997. In 2005, he was sentenced to 55 years in prison.
White was released on parole on Feb. 23. The Indiana Department of Corrections said 2038 was set as the new earliest possible release date due to this parole violation.
In 2019, Delaware County Prosecutor Eric Hoffman blocked an attempt for White to be released early.
