INDIANAPOLIS – Indianapolis Metropolitan police responded to multiple shootings overnight that left three people in area hospitals.
The shootings happened about 45 minutes apart at various locations around the Indianapolis area.
Downtown shooting near canal
The first one was reported just after 3 a.m. in the 300 block of West Michigan Street near the downtown canal.

IMPD had been called to the area because of a large disturbance; they found a person suffering from a gunshot wound. The individual was taken to an area hospital in stable condition.
"We're on the scene of a person that was shot here on the canal," said Capt. Don Weilhammer with IMPD. "It started out with a large disturbance, a large groups of kids and adults."
Near east side shooting
About 15 minutes later, at 3:16 a.m., officers were dispatched to N. Oakland Ave. and E. Michigan St. on the near east side.

Officers found a person who’d been shot. The individual was taken to an area hospital, police said.
East side shooting
The third shooting was reported around 3:45 a.m. in the 6000 block of Windsor Drive on the city’s east side.

Police found a person shot at that location; the victim was taken to an area hospital. The shootings remain under investigation.
