DELPHI, Ind. — An individual has died after a fire in Delphi, according to law enforcement officials.
The Carroll County Sheriff's Office was dispatched on Tuesday at 3:46 p.m. to the 1200 block of Smith Ave. on a report of a structure fire.
When the Delphi Fire Department arrived, flames were at the northwest corner of the residence. Crews learned that there was still a person trapped in the residence.
Several attempts were made by emergency responders and witnesses on the scene to rescue the individual, but they were pronounced dead. Upon extinguishing the fire, investigators located and removed the individual.
The victim was identified as 74-year-old Don R. Alderman. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A neighbor was airlifted to a trauma center due to smoke inhalation.
The fire remains under investigation. Information will be updated as it becomes available.
