MARTINSVILLE, Ind. – Indiana State Police arrested an attorney who worked in local government.
James K. Wisco, 43, faces preliminary charges of corrupt business influence, theft, counterfeiting and official misconduct. Wisco had served as the Morgan County attorney and a Martinsville City Council member.
Detectives from ISP’s Special Investigations Unit made the arrest.
Master Trooper/Detective Tim Denby began investigating Wisco in December 2023 at the request of Morgan County Prosecutor Steve Sonnega, who’d become aware of forgery and theft allegations against Wisco.
Wisco was the attorney for Morgan County and a member of the Martinsville City Council when the investigation began, ISP said. He was also a practicing attorney for the law firm Foley, Peden, & Wisco.
Denby interviewed victims and witnesses. He obtained financial documents through search warrants and subpoenas approved by a court.
The investigation led Denby to request an arrest warrant for Wisco, who agreed to surrender at the Morgan County Jail and was taken into custody.
A special prosecutor has been assigned to the case.
