FISHERS, Ind. -- Starting next year, the city of Fishers will add a new 120-acre park on the west side of Fishers that aims to connect visitors to trails and waterways throughout the city.
According to a news release from the city of Fishers, the new Fishers White River Park is expected to feature more than 120 acres of parkland with more than 5,000 feet of riverfront just west of the 96th Street and Allisonville Road intersection.
Officials are expected to break ground on the park in the fall, with an anticipated opening for next summer, the release said.
“Fishers White River Park is a transformational project that will significantly enhance connectivity across our city, offering our residents access to beautiful parkland,” Fishers Mayor Scott Fadness said in the release. “This new park is a cornerstone of our vision to revitalize the Allisonville Road corridor, creating a vibrant and thriving community space everyone can enjoy.”
The park, based on plans based on community feedback and surveys in 2023, are expected to include:
- 2.45 miles of trails, including trail connectivity to Fishers Heritage Park at White River
- Kayak launch
- Native plantings
- Creek stomping area
- Two scenic overlook boardwalks
- Year-round restrooms
The park will be funded through the Regional Economic Acceleration and Development Initiative, a program established by the office of Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb. Officials said the White River region was awarded $20 million in funding, $4.7 million of which was allocated to the project in 2022.
“Our vision for Fishers White River Park is to showcase the natural beauty of this 120-acre landscape and provide our community with unparalleled access to the White River,” Jake Reardon-McSoley, the director of recreation and wellness for the city of Fishers, said in the release. “We want this park to be a sanctuary where residents can escape the daily grind and reconnect with nature.”
