INDIANAPOLIS – Central Indiana is getting its first L.L. Bean store.
The Maine-based outdoor retailer said the store will open in fall 2024 at Rivers Edge, a shopping plaza located on East 82nd Street. It’s one of four new L.L. Bean stores opening this year.
In May, a new location opened in Ulster, New York, and two additional stores are slated to open along with the Indianapolis store in fall 2024: Enfield, Connecticut; and Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania.
The openings signal the company’s “continued dedication to brick-and-mortar retail” as part of its overall strategy, L.L. Bean said in a news release.
“As we continue to expand our retail footprint beyond New England, we are eager to strengthen our connection with customers and communities across the country, enabling more people to experience the restorative power of time outside,” said Greg Elder, chief retail officer for L.L. Bean.
The company plans additional expansion next year, with a focus on the southeast and Midwest. L.L. Bean is also working on a $50 million “reimagining” of its iconic flagship location in Freeport, Maine, which it said is the second-most visited destination in the state.
Known for sturdy outdoor gear and recreation equipment, L.L. Bean was founded in Maine in 1912. It’s famous for its generous return policy (which changed in 2018) and “legendary customer service.” The chain operates 57 stores across 19 states.
The retailer will begin hiring full- and part-time positions later this summer. Its employment website currently lists Indianapolis openings for store manager and assistant store manager positions.
