WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — An accused burglar is under arrest after brawling with the occupant of an apartment he was allegedly trying to rob.
According to the West Lafayette Police Department, officers were called to an apartment complex in the 100 block of Little Street late Monday on report of a burglary.
The victim told dispatchers he had arrived home to find an unknown man in his apartment stealing items. The victim and the suspect ended up getting into a scuffle with the suspect escaping the apartment.
Police were able to track the suspect down, however, as the victim followed the accused burglar while calling 911.
Steven R. Watkins, 53, of West Lafayette ended up being taken into custody. He faces preliminary charges of burglary, robbery, residential entry, theft, battery, trespassing and criminal mischief.
Police said arresting officers found other alleged stolen property on Watkins when arresting the man.
