MONROE COUNTY, Ind. — Inmates at the Monroe County Jail are facing charges after reportedly attacking an inmate after he said racial slurs and accused them of having a "bromance."
DeJuan Kelley and Ian Thorpe were charged with:
- Escape, a Level 4 Felony
- Battery, a Level 5 Felony
According to court documents, detectives were called to the Monroe County Jail regarding an assault that occurred between inmates at the facility. The suspected inmates were housed together and reportedly unlocked their jail cell and chased the other inmate down the stairs to the lower block. The alleged victim recalled waking up on the cell block floor.
The camera shows footage of Thorpe and Kelley punching the inmate.
Thorpe claimed that the reported victim inmate called him a b**** and racial slurs. The court documents also state that the victim may have alluded to the pair having a "bromance" because they were speaking to one another at 2 a.m. and disturbing his rest.
The attacked inmate was then sent to an area hospital for sustaining serious bodily injuries.
