SPICELAND, Ind. — Henry County deputies are on the scene of a fatal crash involving two semis on Interstate 70 near Spiceland that is causing major delays Friday afternoon.
According to the Indiana Department of Transportation, all lanes of I-70 westbound by mile marker 131 are blocked because of a crash. INDOT characterized the area of the crash as being between Wilbur Wright Road and County Road 375 East about seven miles east of Spiceland.
Henry County Sheriff John Sproles said preliminary information indicates the crash occurred when one of the semi drivers lost control before crashing into the interstate cable barrier and ramming into another semi.
At this time, Sproles said the deceased individual was operating the semi that broke through the cable barrier. The other semi driver was transported to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
HCSO confirmed shortly before 5 p.m. that the scene of the crash was almost cleared and that traffic was moving again. Before that, authorities on scene were diverting traffic to Wilbur Wright Road.
