TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. -- A West Lafayette man has been sentenced to more than 20 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to multiple counts in relation to a fatal crash on U.S. 52 in September.
According to the Tippecanoe County Prosecutor's Office, Brent Willis was sentenced to 28 years in Tippecanoe Superior Court after he pleaded guilty to the following counts:
- Two counts of operating a vehicle while intoxicated resulting in death, a Level 4 felony
- Two counts of causing death when operating a vehicle with an alcohol concentration of .08 or more, a Level 4 felony
- Two counts of reckless homicide, a Level 5 felony
- One count of operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing serious bodily injury, a Level 5 felony
- One count of operating a vehicle with an alcohol concentration of .08 or more causing serious bodily injury, a Level 5 felony.
In September, two people were pronounced dead after an evening crash on U.S. 52 in Tippecanoe County. Indiana State Troopers said at the time that a 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling northbound when it struck a 2005 Pontiac G2 on the driver's side.
The driver and a passenger of the Pontiac were pronounced dead on scene, according to previous reports. Another passenger in the Pontiac was transported to a local hospital.
According to the prosecutor's office, Willis reportedly admitted to attending a golf outing in the Indianapolis area and stopped at two bars after that. Wills said he consumed alcoholic beverages at each of the locations.
Willis will serve 24 years in the Indiana Department of Correction, two years with the Tippecanoe County Community Corrections and two years on probation, according to the release.
