INDIANAPOLIS -- An Indianapolis man was pronounced dead on Thursday in relation to injuries that stemmed from a reported aggravated assault from March 2023.

According to the Marion County Coroner's Office, 65-year-old David Mouser was pronounced dead on Thursday at Clearvista Lake Health, an assisted living facility on the northeast side of Indianapolis. The coroner's office identified this death as a homicide.

This stems from an incident in March 2023 where Mouser was reportedly assaulted with a blunt object on the south side of Indianapolis.

Officials with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to a "call for help" in the 1200 block of E. Thompson Road in the early morning hours of March 5, 2023. When officers arrived, they found Mouser, who was reportedly assaulted with a brick by an unknown individual.

IMPD officials said that Mouser's autopsy has not been completed yet, stressing that this case continues to be investigated as an aggravated assault and not a homicide as of Friday. IMPD said that the cause of Mouser's death is undetermined.

IMPD Lt. Shane Foley said that the department does not have any information on a potential suspect in this case. Regardless if this case is a homicide or aggravated assault, Foley stressed that IMPD still wants to solve this case.

"It’s not uncommon sometimes that is takes time for detectives to gather enough information to make a case come forward or as more attention is brought to a case like this, if people will come forward with information and share that with detectives," Foley said.

"Time and time again we find when people cooperate with our investigations - It leads to arrests of those individuals involved and we are hopeful it will happen in this case."

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call IMPD's aggravated assault unit at (317) 327-3475 or Crime Stoppers at (317) 262-TIPS.

This story will be updated when more information becomes available.
