WHITESTOWN, Ind. — A Whitestown police officer is recovering in the hospital after his squad car was hit by an Indianapolis man who was reportedly speeding and drunk driving on I-65.
According to the Whitestown Metropolitan Police Department, a WMPD officer was turning his squad car around at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday on I-65 North near the 135.5 mile marker. The car, which had its emergency lights on, was using the emergency vehicle median to turn.
While slowing down into the median, WMPD said the officer's car was rear-ended by a silver Honda Crosstour sedan that was speeding down the interstate. The officer and the driver of the sedan were immediately taken to Methodist Hospital with moderate injuries, police said.
