INDIANAPOLIS -- An 18-year-old man was arrested in Jackson County, Georgia on Wednesday in relation to the fatal shooting of his stepfather on the northeast side of Indianapolis.
According to a post on the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department's Facebook page, 18-year-old Audrice Addison was arrested on unrelated charges in Georgia. Officials then found that Addison had a murder warrant that was issued out of Marion County.
On March 25, IMPD was dispatched to a home in the 3800 block of Sherman Forest Lane and found two individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. One of the men, identified by police as 50-year-old Eric Parks, was pronounced dead after being taken to the hospital.
The release said that homicide detectives "used various investigative techniques to identify a person of interest in this case." On April 19, Addison was charged by the Marion County Prosecutor's Office with murder and battery by means of a deadly weapon.
"The IMPD would like to thank our law enforcement partners in Georgia for their assistance in getting a dangerous and violent criminal off the streets," the release said.
What did the court documents say?
According to court documents, filed in mid-April but recently unsealed in Marion County, the other person who was shot told police that he heard arguing outside of his apartment. The other person said that he saw clothing "strung out on (Parks') patio as if someone was being tossed out.
Parks, Addison's stepfather, reportedly was standing in the parking lot during the argument when shots were allegedly fired by Addison. The documents said that the other person was accidentally shot by Parks in self defense.
Other witnesses, including Addison's family members, told police that Addison and Parks were reportedly arguing over marijuana, leading Parks to tell Addison that he had to leave the home. This argument reportedly led to the shooting.
During the exchange, Parks reportedly told Addison "I told you to get out of my motherf------ house. I don't give a f--- about you or your gun." After Parks left the apartment to confront Addison, a witness heard around eight gunshots.
After the shooting, Addison reportedly said "I'm about sick of that n----- s---" and he ran out the door.
The autopsy found Parks suffered from around six gunshot wounds, including wounds to his left arm, legs, right hip, back and chest.
